Longhi's at Ala Moana

Had lunch at Longhi's today located above Morton's Steakhouse in the Ala Moana Shopping Center. It was a little breezy but not cold so I started with a glass of Zardetto Prosecco while the Mrs had a strawberry daiquiri.

We started with complimentary jalapeno and pizza cheese bread (Longhi's has one of the better bread "baskets"). Just an order (or two) of these cheese breads with a martini (or two) and I would have been good to go!

We always order their Fruitti di Mare which consists of perfectly poached shrimp, scallops and squid tossed with roasted Mancini peppers and Kalamata olives and a simple vinaigrette and served over hearts of Romaine... well, today they chose Bibb lettuce. I prefer the chilled Romaine because that nice crunch contrasts the silky sweet seafood. It was still great with the Prosecco!

Next up was the PEI Mussels in Marinara. The four large cheese toasts were the perfect vessel to soak up the tomato sauce... too bad PEI mussels aren't usually available at the retail level. We only get those frozen green lipped mussels at the supermarket... not the same!

The Mrs opted for the Reuben which wasn't as messy as anticipated. Usually the Russian dressing mixes with the juices from the sauerkraut and runs down your arms. Not this baby, judicious use of dressing and - I believe - blotted sauerkraut made for cleaner consumption. In fact, the Mrs brought half of her sandwich home... (lucky me).

I had their Prawns Amaretto which is 4 very large shrimp (U15s I believe) sauteed with Amaretto, brandy, orange juice and a touch of cream (I didn't see any cream and frankly didn't mind). The only difficult part was consuming this dish without looking like a savage since they were served in shell (and 3 of my shrimp were in the mid stage of molt/shell hardening since their shells were soft and "stuck" to the flesh). However very good flavor... that I'd order it again shell and all!

And it was great with a glass of A to Z Pinot Gris!
