Chili's

Took Mom to Chili's for Mother's Day... before I get any cheapskate comments, Mom insisted on Chili's - one because she loves her deep fried, salty foods and two, because she wanted to pay a visit to Whole Foods after dinner. We started with a round of drinks, the guest of honor had a Patron Cranberry Cooler (a big ouch at $12.95... guess a big part was the Patron), the Mrs had a Strawberry Daiquiri and I had the usual Top Shelf Margarita, blended without salt. Chili's does do their margaritas very well, especially the Top Shelf which has Cuervo 1800 and Grand Marnier.

I guess as Mom gets older, her appetite shrinks. She only ordered the trio of appetizers - the Southwestern Eggrolls, the Boneless Buffalo Wings and the Chicken Crispers... and only finished about half of it (she probably cleaned it up as a midnight "snack"). The Mrs opted for the Carribean Salad with Grilled Chicken (which only came in at 36gm fat, 6gm saturated fat) while I had a "healthy" Grilled BBQ Chicken Salad (a whopping 1060 calories, 63gm fat and 19gm saturated fat).

Carribean Salad... unsure what was carribean about this salad. I think they still messed up and gave the Mrs the Asian Salad (notice the mandarin orange wedges)?

Grilled BBQ Chicken Salad. I tried shaking off the excess cheese to reduce my fat load.

Our server comp'd us dessert because she said there was a mixup with our order and it took longer than usual. Because our arteries weren't clogged enough, we had the Chocolate Chip Paradise Pie (1290 calories, 68gm fat, 33gm saturated fat 5gm fiber... I have no idea where the fiber comes from??)

Online nutritional information does take the fun out of eating (unless you really don't give a rats-_ss what you funnel down your throat) but it does give you informed decision making. Sometimes seemingly healthier dining options are the worst culprits. The side of Homestyle Fries we shared actually had the least fat and saturated fat and that plate would have filled me up...
