Lunch at Longhi's

Stopped by Longhi's at Ala Moana yesterday for lunch. The Mrs was hankerin' for the Belgian Endive Salad with its caramelized macadamia nuts, crumbled Gorgonzola and honey-scallion-mint vinaigrette. A pleasing balance of crunchy (endive and macadamias), bitter (endive), sweet (macadamias and honey) and creamy/salty (Gorgonzola) with a vinaigrette that tied everything together. Plus it's east to eat since you just have to pop a leaf in your mouth.

I selected the Ahi Carpaccio which was a CD case sized piece of ahi about 1/4 inch thick (probably also used for their Ahi Torino) over toasted bread with fresh tomatoes, capers and fresh basil on Kula greens. A very nice salad-appetizer. The A-Z Pinot Gris paired with the ahi was also very good.

The Mrs then progressed to the Sicilian Pasta with calamari, chili flakes, red peppers and olives in a spicy pomodoro on linguini. She said it was spicy so I passed on a nibble - didn't want to sweat into my Montecristi. She intentionally ordered a pasta because she planned on havng dessert but was stuffed at meals end so dessert will have to wait another day.

I had the Fresh Fish Longhi Style which is sauteed fish on garlic toast atop a light beurre blanc topped with fresh tomatoes and fresh basil. The toast nicely sops the beurre blanc and the tomatoes and basil help cut through the sauce.

It was a great lunch (including my Ly-Ger Martini or lychee and ginger martini that I started with) even if the Mrs had to pass on dessert again (2nd time in a row) but in the words of Ah-Nold, "we'll be back".
