Cane & Taro at Whaler's Village

Since we couldn't secure a table for dinner (they had 50% and 25% off on subsequent evenings from 5:00 to 6:00 pm), we settled for breakfast at Cane & Taro. The most confusing thing was looking for Fish, Fish, Fish as it's listed in the Hawaiian Air magazine. Apparently the name is still Cane & Taro but we thought another DK restaurant existed (Cane & Taro = Fish, Fish, Fish).

On our visit I selected the Cane & Taro Corned Beef Hash with potatoes and scallions and 2 sunny side eggs. I also chose the breakfast potatoes over rice (nothing better than dippin' that first potato piece in the egg yolk)...

The Mrs selected the Giant Belgian Waffles with Kula strawberries and macadamia nuts - she passed on the whipped cream and drowned it in maple syrup.

On our last morning on Maui, we paid a return visit for breakfast. This time I selected the Loco Moco with Mom Kodama's Plantation Meatloaf with dark gravy, deep fried onion shoestrings and 2 sunny sides. I also ordered a side of breakfast potatoes to help sop all of that dark brown gravy (and to pierce the egg yolks). It was one of the better Loco Moco renditions I've tried (and I've tried my fair share).

The Mrs chose the Banana Macadamia Nut Pancakes with a side of ham. She could only manage to polish 2 of the 3 pancakes leading our server to exclaim "can't let you go until you finish your breakfast".

Cane & Taro offers a nice alternative to breakfast at the hotel or resort... just watch out for those low flying sparrows that buzz by every 5 minutes or so...
