Hauoli la hanau Mike!

We spent the evening celebrating Mike's B-Day at HASR Wine Co and since it was at the wine shop, you know that wines were freely being poured! Mike started the evening by uncorking a bottle of 2003 Bouchard Mersault Genevrieres which had light minerality on the nose with stone fruit and a nice palate flow with a medium finish.

He then uncorked a 2008 Latour Corton Charlemagne which had pronounced earthiness on the nose followed by fruit and mineral on the palate and a long finish.

There was a small sake station:

Some Spanish selections poured by Sky:

Sky also offered a 2007 Cornas produced by the son of Alain Graillot which had green olive and earth on the nose with black olive, grilled meat and earth on the palate with a lighter finish.

A bunch of Duckhorns:

And several Cabs
.

The Kakazu's also had Superb Sushi in the courtyard as well as several hot appetizers cooked up by Chef Vierra right next door at Grand Cafe.

Of course since it WAS a celebration, you ALWAYS have to start with a little bubbly so I uncorked a bottle of Pierre Peters Blanc de Blanc which had citrus curd and mineral perfectly balanced on the nose and a seamless palate flow with a medium long finish.

I also popped a 2005 Kosta Browne Rosella's Vineyard Pinot Noir which was still big and brooding with loads of Asian spice and ripe red fruit on the nose and umpteen fruit concentration on the palate and a very long finish.

And a bottle of 2005 Realm The Tempest which had good fruit concentration on the palate and a long finish.

For the ladies, we ended with a 2006 Bonny Doon Le Vol Des Anges bortrysized Rousanne.

A fun night with way too many wines... though celebrations usually require that much...
