After the Mrs heard about the $10 burger at Wolfgang's, she just had to try it. I know, you hear the name Wolfgang and immediately envision that chef with the "Ah-nold" accent that makes fancy pizza. Nope, not that guy. And it's not Van Halen's son either (who replaced Michael Anthony on bass). It's the Wolfgang who worked for years at the infamous Peter Lugar's steakhouse in New York then branched out on his own with location #6 right here in Waikiki. Well, K told us about a lunchtime special at Wolfgang's - not listed on the menu - but $10 for a 1/2 lb Prime burger complete with french fries and onion rings! "Sold" said the Mrs! Since it is a steakhouse, I had to start with the requisite Manhattan (forgot to tell the server shaken, not stirred and straight up)...
Instead of bread you get a basket of scones... cranberry, chocolate chip, blueberry...
I HAD to try the Canadian Bacon - thick cut meaty bacon...
Along with the Steak Tartar served with chopped tomatoes, minced capers, minced onion, minced anchovy and Dijon mustard complete with a quail egg... mmm, raw meat good!
The Mrs had her burger with American (she enjoyed the burger giving it a 8/10 but still giving the 10/10 edge to LarkCreek Steak's burger)
While K had hers topped with Bleu cheese
And I selected the other lunch special - Fish-n-Chips. What!? Fish at a steakhouse! Well I did sample the tartar which IS raw steak (my other choice would have been the Wolfgang's Eggs Benedict served with sliced filet mignon). The mahimahi was crisp on the outside and flaky within though the fries were not as crisp as I like my fries.
I just had to select a wine that would pair with all so I selected a 2009 Roco Willamette Valley Pinot Noir - perfect with the Canadian Bacon, very good with the Tartar, ok with the burgers and ok with the Fish-n-Chips.
We also were comped a Creme Brulee by the manager though that's not the reason we're returning.
The Mrs still wants to sample some of their steaks and in the words of the real Ah-nold, "We'll be baaack"!
