Nani? Sushi mo ichido?

Yes, we did have sushi once again. At Mitch's again. Of course, for me it was a personal challenge. To wine and dine at Mitch's and still be able to enjoy a nightcap at Vino especially since I ingloriously passed out on the first 2 challenges...

Since sushi and sashimi were the stars, we HAD to start with sake. K brought a bottle of Denshin "Yuki" Ginjo which was light and ethereal

While I brought a bottle of Yoshi No Gawa Winter Warrior Ginjo which was sweeter and a little more viscous on the palate

We proceeded to sample the Shirauo or icefish with sharks fin

The foie gras of the sea, ankimo or monkfish liver

And a new selection, namako or marinated sea cucmber which was chewy and crunchy at the same time. I give credit to our dining partners as they heroically sampled even these "strange" selections.

I then uncorked a bottle of Billecart-Salmon Brut Reserve (since Champagne's other food partner is sushi and sashimi)

We also ordered the Van Van or mayo covered scallop and white fish that was broiled to perfection

We also sampled several rolls including the Salmon Skin (my fave), the Negihama (my second fave) and the cucumber-ume roll.

I'm not sure if it was because we offered each sake to the chefs that evening but the sashimi pieces were mightly LARGE! Totemo ookii desu nee! We sampled the Otoro, Salmon (from the belly), Hamachi and Mirugai (geoduck clam). I was surprised that R enjoyed hamachi so much... to the point that he "stole" pieces of negihama and hamachi sashimi from his Mrs' plate when she wasn't looking.

We then had a round of Tamago (egg) sushi

And Ikura (salmon roe), Shima Aji (Japanese papio or jackfish)

And Suzuki (Japanese sea bass)

We finally ended the evening with Hamachi Kama or grilled yellowtail collar

Another great meal at Mitch's (and mahalo to the H's for the wonderful meal). And guess what? We even had a nightcap (actually several nightcaps) at Vino and yours truly didn't pass out. I even enjoyed a bottle of 2006 Lignier-Michelot Gevrey Chambertin Cuvee Bertin along with several other wines poured at the Ultimate BYOB that same evening.
