We decided to sample Vino's special menu paying homage to that City by the Bay and specifically to Fisherman's Wharf. Vino offered four specials for the evening:
Sauteed Monterey Calamari
served with white Tuscan beans & frisee
Shellfish Cannelloni
served with a ciopino sauce
Homemade Linguine
tossed with rock shrimp, white wine, garlic & lemon
Sicilian Cracked Crab
roasted with garlic, olive oil, lemon & green onions
We sampled the Calamari which was as tender as squid gets
The Linguine with rock shrimp that popped in your mouth
And the Crab which was very good (though very messy to eat). The garlic and crab infused oil on the bottom made mighty fine bread dippin'.
I also brought a bottle of 1993 Heredia Vina Tondonia Blanco (90% Viura, 10% Malavasia) which had a pleasant nose of white flowers, a hint of stone fruit and a touch of mineral which worked nicely with the crab.
I also uncorked a bottle of 1976 Matrot La Piece sous le Bois Blagny which still had quite a bit of funk on the nose but was on its last legs palate wise. Still drinkable though.
The Mrs ordered the Red Velvet Cake for dessert and as usual, more bottles were uncorked left and right.
Another great night at Vino!
