Lunch at Adega Portuguesa

What do you do after spending most of the evening and night having food and wine with friends? You have lunch with them the next day of course! Since it was a Saturday (when Brasserie du Vin is open), the Mrs was tempted to drop in and have their Frites. But Chinatown has a new eatery serving Brazilian and Portuguese cuisine - Adega Portuguesa - so we HAD to give it a try.

And of course, what do you order after having a wee bit too much vino the night before? Cocktails of course! The girls started with the Adega Caprininia (capirinha):

While I sampled the Bombay Press or Bombay dry gin with Cointreau, lime juice and a dash of Angostura bitters and ginger ale.

When then started with Lulas Fritas or fried calamari - large rings of deep fried squid served with a tomato based dippin' sauce.

A side of fries just for the Mrs (not on the menu but they accomodated our request).

And the Moela a Adega or sauteed gizzards in a tomato sauce with onions and olives. I assumed the gizzards would be a little chewy but they were tender and flavorful. In fact, the next time we visit Whole Foods, I'm lookin' for Mary's Organic chicken gizzards to try and replicate this dish! Brok da mout!

Between 11:30am and 2:30pm, they offer a lunch buffet for $12.99 which includes a macaroni, bean, sausage and pork casserole (like a drier Portuguese bean soup), boneless chicken, pork cutlets in a lemon cream sauce and saffron and regular rice along with a green salad. Since this was our first visit, the buffet allowed us to try multiple items that aren't on the regular menu.

The casserole and the pork cutlet were highlights of the meal (other than the gizzards) though the Mrs still wants to sample the Caldo Verde and the Bacalhao so we'll be back...
