A couple of weeks ago, Chuck hosted a 2006 Cabernet tasting @ Vino where the wines were sampled blind and had tasters guessing which was which. The wines read like this:
2006 Greenock Creek Cabernet Sauvignon “BarossaValley”
a 94 pointer from superstar Australian winemaker Chris
Ringland
2006 Shirvington Cabernet Sauvignon “McLaren Vale”
a 93 pointer from superstar Australian winemaker Sparky
Marquis
2006 Fantesca Cabernet Sauvignon “SpringMountain”
Heidi Peterson Barrett’s latest “mountain grown” projects
2006 Col Solare
a 93 pointer from the state of Washington
To preface, in my defense I haven't been drinking Big Reds recently, namely big New World reds. So you can guess my score... zero out of four... which actually is PEREFCTION! Just as hard to guess four out of four as zero out of four. Guess my glass IS half full!...
Anyway, right after the tasting we started the REAL meat of the evening. Our own food and wine pairing starting with Goose Point oysters on the half shell.
Along with the Duo of Sushi
Enjoyed with some 2005 Raveneau "Butteaux" 1er Cru Chablis
And some 2004 Morey-Blanc Auxey Duresses
The Mrs had Mary's Chicken
While I sampled the Eggplant complete with runny egg yolk...
Since the theme was 2006 Cabs, I brought a 2006 Leonetti Cabernet Sauvignon
And a 2001 Bressler Cabernet Sauvignon
Other wines sampled throughout the course of the night:
Another great evening with new and old friends alike and loads of vino...
