Crab Night @ Vino

We ended up at Vino last night not because we REALLY wanted to sample the crab specials (we sampled them on previous Crab Nights) but mainly because the Mrs DIDN'T want to sample Shirokiya's Yataimura Beer Garden. You see, she's not really a beer drinker and the main beer served is Bud or Bud Light and she prefers darker brews like Guinness or Rogue Chocolate Stout which I don't think Shirokiya serves. So we ended up at Vino which really ISN'T a bad thing. After a couple of 2 ounce samplers, we had a bottle of 2010 Paolo Scavino Langhe Bianco which is a blend of mostly Sauvignon Blanc with some Chardonnay. A great wine with both crab dishes.

The first crab special was the Roasted Cracked Crab with garlic, parsley, lemon and chili

The other special was Chilled Marinated Crab with chili pepper water aioli

Both specials had great flavor though a little messy extractin' those morsels of goodness

We then moved on to a bottle of 2011 Virgona Salina Bianco which Chuck was trying to procure for quite a while. It's a blend of Inzolia and Cataratto though leagues apart from Donnafugata Anthilia. This wine was beggin' for oysters on the half shell!

We also sampled the Dungeness Crab with linguine

The Waialua Asparagus with Mushrooms and Egg

The fresh Burrata with tomatoes and pesto

And Karen's Pasta or a variant of Fettucine Alfredo with fresh mushrooms

I also uncorked a bottle of 2009 Evening Land Tempest Vineyard Pinot Noir from the Santa Rita Hills. Still as tight as a Pinot can get even after decanting.

Of course, I didn't get my Ginza Bairin Tonkatsu and Bud Light from Shirokiya's Yataimura Beer Garden but   still had some mighty tasty grinds!
