Lunch @ Jade Dynasty

Though we were loaded with bento from the JCCH New Year's Ohana Festival, the Mrs wanted to have lunch Jade Dynasty. Dim sum that is. The set-up at Jade Dynasty is a little different than traditional dim sum restaurants where you simply place your order via a checklist then hand it to a waiter - no roving carts here. And when in Rome... so I ordered a glass of Su Yuen Riesling - a little sweet with earthy notes though not schist-like that you see in German Rieslings.

We then progressed to the Seaweed Seafood Rolls ($3.50) which are one of my favorites. Airy crisp batter with a perfect balance of wakame and seafood.

The Mochi Rice with Dry Scallop and Chicken ($3.50) - another of my favorites since the dry scallops give the rice an umami quality

The Signature Shrimp Dumplings ($3.50) or Har Gau

The Steamed Chicken Buns ($3.50)

The Shrimp and Chive Dumplings ($3.50)

The Shrimp Spring Roll Look Fun ($5.50) which was basically a spring roll encased in a look fun noodle and these were straight from the fryer... it nearly seared my upper palate

And the Dry Scallop and Egg White Fried Rice ($10.95?). I bet this would have rocked if it were topped with a sunny-side egg or two...

And for dessert, an order of the Baked Pineapple Cream Buns ($2.95) which the Mrs actually ordered first. I just listed it last since it would seem strange to order dessert first... to most men at least. The Mrs usually orders Dan Tat or mini custard tarts for dessert but I prefer these as they are like Chinese Long Johns... okay, Round Johns.

I held off on this visit but the Tripe with Ginger and Green Onion or Curried Tripe looked pretty good in the menu photos but deferred since the Mrs isn't really into offals. So it'll have to wait for a subsequent visit...
