Late Lunch @ Honolulu Burger Co

Once again, I finally used another Groupon that was on the verge of expiring... the promotional value anyway. So after the Mrs did her errands at Ala Moana, we headed to the Honolulu Burger Co for a late lunch. I selected the Mushroom Mushroom Burger complete with American Swiss, sauteed mushrooms and onions with lettuce and tomato on a toasted sweet roll cooked medium rare (they ask you how you want your burger done).

I also chose the Truffle Fries which had the unmistakable aroma of truffle oil along with parsley and grated Parmesan. Crisp on the outside with a light sprinkling of kosher or flaked salt.

The Mrs selected a Single XL burger with sauteed onions, lettuce and tomato on a toasted whole wheat bun with their "famous" Big Island Honey Mustard Sauce (which also accompanies their fries).

She sampled the Hapa Fries with her burger which were half regular, half sweet potato fries. The sweet potato fries were also very crisp and not mushy (my pet peeve with sweet potato fries is they often can be oily and mushy - not good eats).

So the verdict? The Mrs said that the burger at Larkcreek Steak in the Westfield Centre in San Francisco is still her favorite burger (it IS mighty fine). She places Honolulu Burger Co next to the original Whole Ox Deli burger which was a lot juicier but Honolulu Burger Co gets equal footing because of the great beefy taste - it wasn't dry but it definitely didn't leak any juices and we both had them done medium rare. We both agreed that it was a step above Wolfgang's and definitely above Kua Aina. Now to sample Teddy's which recently opened a branch in K-Town.
