Dinner @ Mitch's Fish Market and Sushi Bar

Ever since the Champagne BYOB at Vino last month, D wanted to revisit Mitch’s. I’m not sure if it was because the Mrs brought up the Born Dreams Come True sake and how well it paired with every dish that we sampled at our visit in October or whether those Champagne bubbles just got to D’s head a little too fast. In any case, we were there with D and L along with the L’s last weekend for another round of the best sushi on the island. We started with several bottles of sake, A’s bottle of Fukucho "Moon on the Water" Junmai Ginjo which had an earthier, rich flavor.

Along with my last bottle of Kubota Tokugetsu - made only in the Fall with a "drink by" date of February so we "HAD" to open it...

And D’s bottle of Kikusui "Chrysanthemum Mist" Junmai Ginjo with a palate between the Fukucho and the Kubota.

With the starting plate of Negitoro, Negihama, Masaba, Sake, Uni, Maguro, Shima Aji and Salmon Skin Roll. I love negitoro and negihama because you still get that fine flavor of those fatty fish albeit at a slightly lower cost and the rice helps delay the sake from immediately hitting your brain. And salmon skin… fish flavored bacon!

We then moved on to the foie gras of the sea, Ankimo

I also opened a bottle of Otokoyama Junmai Dai Ginjo – melons and white flowers on the nose with a pleasing viscosity on the palate.

We also sampled the Kue or grouper along with more Sake, Hamachi, Uni (it was really sweet that night) and Sayuri. As the bottles of sake were down to their last cup or so, we would give the remainder to the Chefs. I'm not sure it that's the reason the Sake pieces started getting longer...

We then sampled some Ama Ebi, Kazunoko, Natto and Maguro rolls and some pink fish I don't remember (probably due to the sake).

Love those Ama Ebi fried heads... the best part of the dish!

We then ended with one last order of Sake and Salmon Skin rolls... Ok, the Sake are noticeably a LOT larger than the initial plate...

I then uncorked a bottle of Launois Quartz Champagne to end the evening. Another great meal with friends... though I do have to return with just the Mrs so we can order the $75 sampler (sans abalone) so she can eat her fill of sushi. When you're with a larger group, you usually just "pick" at a piece here or there and since the Mrs doesn't drink sake like I do, the meal doesn't fill her up so we ended up visiting Vino so she could finish her meal...

With some Shinsato Farms Pork Chop and Pistacchio Gelato. I was full so I just had a Negroni.
