More specials @ Vino

The Mrs originally contemplated giving the W Bistro at 1010 a try last night... that is until she saw the online menu. A whole lot pricier than its predecessor Le Guignol. Then she briefly contemplated Meatball which had its grand opening yesterday. I informed her that Kapahulu Ave wasn't known for parking and that perhaps we should wait a little before attempting to dine there - just to let the initial rush subside. So we ended up at Vino... but I'm not complaining. It was Oyster night so we sampled both the Raw

And the Fried

With a little vino from Ms K, a 2012 Minet Pouilly Fume

We also sampled the Sizzling Hamachi from Hiroshi

As well as the Margherita Pizza

Which is when I uncorked a 1996 Argiano Solengo... Loads of ripe red fruit intertwined with leather, licorice and hints of tar with a seamless palate flow and medium finish. I'm glad that I still have another bottle in storage!

Perfect with the Smoked Pork Belly (also from Hiroshi)

And since man (and woman) can't live on seafood and pork alone, we sampled the Brussels Sprouts with aioli and red jalapenos.

Plus the Braised Tako with shishito peppers. The tako was so tender, you didn't even need teeth to eat them!

And the Madagascar Prawns on linguine

I made sure to suck those prawn heads clean!

Though last night's visit was unplanned, we do plan on samplin' the specials again this coming Saturday as Chef Keith highlights his "Mediterranean Luau" with Shinsato Pork roasted "kalua" style with coconut milk braised kale along with his Pa'i'ai Gnocchi. And as an added bonus, the Hiroshi side is featuring a triple treat, Shrimp Cakes, Scallop Cakes and Crab Cakes.
