Dining with the Palaka Wine Co

We had dinner this past weekend with the group informally known as the Palaka Wine Co. Basically it's a group of people who met during a tour to Napa Valley arranged by The Wine Stop who quickly became good friends with a love for food and wine. Since that initial trip, the I's have arranged their own tours through wine country - we were slated to go on one of those tours in May but it had to be cancelled due to unexpected business plans of the principal organizer. Of course, in lieu of a 10 day trip, a wine dinner is the next best thing. And once again, it was held in the Private Dining Room of Sansei with participants carting bottles of their own to dinner.

Champagne was first uncorked including a 2003 Drappier Millesime Canicule

We started with a trio of appetizers provided by GM, Ivy Nagayama including the Panko Crusted Fresh Ahi Sashimi with soy wasabi butter sauce.

The Walu Sashimi

And the Bresaola Carpaccio with arugula.

The Mrs also wanted to sample the Salmon Skin Roll

Hamachi Nigiri

And Saba Nigiri

I uncorked a 2009 Aubert Ritchie Vineyard Pinot Noir

Along with a 2004 Amon Ra Barossa Valley Shiraz

And a 2002 Realm Beckstoffer To-Kalon Cabernet Sauvignon

For our main courses, the Mrs chose the 15-day dry aged Bone-In Ribeye

While I selected the Big Island Sous Vide Striploin

With the Crab Oscar

And French Fries

And since I can't really who uncorked what wines, here's a glipse of the glut of vino that night...

We also had dessert but I was WAY TOO FULL...

So I simply opened a bottle of Averna Amaro Siciliana, a bitter and sweet digestif that many diners seemed to enjoy...

You know that people were full when there was about 2/3 of a bottle of Hourglass still left... And yes, we'll be back... in short order...
