Dinner @ Vino

Since Vino has so many buyouts next month and since the Mrs finished her cooking a little early, we decided to have dinner at Vino. E-mailed Ms K who was game then low and behold, the K's call asking if we were attending the Ultimate BYOB that same evening... "No" but we'll be there for dinner. So E ask Chuck to select an unusual white... Chuck was first planning to uncork a white Burg then did an about face with this bottle:

A 2004 Bregeon Gorges Muscadet which sat on the lees for 7 to 8 years. It was Chuck's last bottle and Bregeon doesn't produce it every year hence Chuck's about face in selecting this bottle. When I first took the Beginner's Class with the Court of Master Sommeliers, both Chuck and Nunzio Alioto said you could always tell Muscadet because it had no smell and no taste... Not this bottle1 Extended lees aging (like what's done for Champagne) adds loads of complexity to the nose and palate. This wine was somewhere between a Chablis, white Rhone and a Vermentino and it was prefect with the Kampachi Crudo...

We also sampled the Kerry Kakazu (hydroponic grown butter lettuce).

And the Salumi and Cheese Platter

With a 1998 Michel Ganoux Corton Renardes Grand Cru - it had a nice nose and initial palate but dropped of in mid-palate as well as finish... a little disappointing...

Along with the Duo of Contemporary Sushi

And the Kabayaki Foie Gras Sushi

Sampled with a 2008 Raymond Lafon Sauternes - when I uncorked it 2 days earlier the acid was the dominant sensation but after 2 days, the baked apricot and petrol emerged...

The Mrs chose the Dungeness Crab ala Chitarra Pasta

While I had the Mini Osso Buco

With a Scarpetta Barbera

And a 2005 Radio-Coteau La Neblina Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir

We ended the evening with a Dhondt Rose de Saignee (and two other bottles of bubbly)

Of course, the Mrs did have her sweets...

Man, other than this Wednesday, Vino will be closed due to buyouts for another 5 days in November... including two Fridays and one Saturday! Guess I just gotta uncork at home next month...
