Since I'm all about eating and drinking (more like drinking and eating) while in Wine Country, I don't pay much attention to our accommodations. I mean, as long as it's relatively clean, safe and I have my own restroom, I'm good to go. Which is why the Mrs books the room. She doesn't feel the same way I do about Motel 6, La Quinta or any of those bargain motels. And she loves B and B's so on this trip she booked us right in Napa Town at 1801 First (which is their address). A look at the room:
The bathroom included a large soaking tub that could fit about 4 people... why you would want to bathe next to a window, I don't know...
They offer breakfast at either 8:30, 9:00 or 9:30 and you select your breakfast the evening before which includes a "healthy" breakfast with yogurt, granola, a boiled egg and chicken sausage, a standard breakfast of bacon, eggs and potatoes or a special that changes daily served with fruit and two different baked items. On the first morning we sampled this:
Guess who had the poached eggs on polenta with pesto and chorizo and who had the healthy breakfast?
The second morning looked like this:
We both sampled the Eggs Benedict with lox and grilled asparagus...
And the last morning looked like this:
Guess who had the bacon and eggs? (notice the Snickers since it was Halloween)
The accommodations at 1801 First were top rate and the staff were very friendly and helpful. We never indulged in their wine, cheese and charcuterie every evening because we usually were out to dinner (or sampling Hog Island's happy hour oyster prices at 50% off). We definitely would return when we plan another trip to Napa.
