Because of the large lunch we sampled at Lark Creek Steak, the Mrs wanted some lighter faire and originally thought about samplin' ramen at Sapporo-Ya... no such luck, they're closed on Mondays. So we walked around J-Town lookin' for an acceptable substitute. She didn't want to try that funky joint right on the bridge that connects the East and West sections of the Kinokuniya Mall. She didn't really want sushi. So it was down to adjoining establishments, Yamadaya which specialized in tonkotsu ramen or Tanpopo which had the basic lighter broth ramen.
So she opted for Yamadaya since we've never really indulged in tonkotsu ramen. Of course, we first sample an order of gyoza.
And I'm still on vacation so I sample a mini bottle of Sayuri nigori (unfiltered sake).
With the basic Tonkotsu Ramen - the Mrs' shoyu tonkotsu pretty much looked the same. The simmered pork belly and char siu were ON POINT! Tender, not too salty and a perfect compliment to the rich broth...
There is a sign letting diners know that the broth is steeped for hours...
It was a nice and light dinner especially since our standby Sapporo-Ya was closed. And I might even return to sample the other flavors of tonkotsu...
