We celebrated Ms K's B-Day last night at Vino... well, it was kinda last minute and we didn't tell her the I's would also be there. We started with a bottle of bubbly that Ms K brought then moved on to a couple of Old World Sangiovese starting with my 1994 Biondi Santi "Greppo" Brunello di Montalcino. After quite a while being "glug-glugged" by the Master, it gave off loads of old leather with hints of tobacco and earth. It did have a shorter mid-palate and finish but then again, 1994 wasn't a great year for Brunellos...
And also V's 1998 Podere Poggio Scalette Il Carbonaione Alta Valle della Greve IGT that the Master also spent quite a while "glug-glugging"... loads of leather, tobacco, dried red cherry and earth with a seamless palate flow...
We then moved on to a horde of appetizers including the Shredded Braised Short Rib and Egg Pizza
The Portuguese Sausage Potstickers...
The Foie Gras Arancini...
And the Crispy Buffalo Mozzarella...
I also uncorked a 2012 Ground Boots Pinot Noir from Santa Barbara made by Gypsy Canyon with all profits benefitting SoiDog...
While V uncorked a 2006 Keplinger Kingpin Rowe Syrah (one of my new discoveries on our Napa trip)...
I didn't get a photo of the mains but it included K's Pasta for Ms K - basically an Alfredo with mushrooms...
And some Brussels Sprouts...
And in keeping with our tradition, we ended with a bottle of Drappier Champagne. A nice get together with our usual extended family... And I did open up two more spaces in storage for the load of wines I ordered while in Napa...
