Day 6 leads us to another libation created by a professional, in this case it's Bar Manager Doug Derrick of Nostrana in Portland, Oregon who creates a new version of the classic Negroni every month. He states that his Continental is by far the most popular rendition that Nostrana pours. It substitutes that bitter artichoke based Cynar for Campari but also uses purely dry white vermouth instead of the classic sweet red vermouth:
Continental
1 and 1/2 ounces Plymouth gin
3/4 ounce Cynar
1/2 ounce Dolin Blanc vermouth
Ice
Thin slice of lemon zest, for garnish
Combine ingredients in a mixing glass and fill with ice.
Stir well until thoroughly chilled, about 30 seconds. Strain into a chilled
cocktail glass and twist the lemon zest over the drink, using it as garnish.
