Dinner with the Palaka Wine Co @ Cafe Miro

We broke bread once again with members of the Palaka Wine Co at Cafe Miro this past weekend. Palaka Wine Co? It's a group who initially met though wine tastings at The Wine Stop who all eventually participated in a trip to Napa Valley led by Kim Karalovich and Liane Fu and became lifelong friends. Everyone except the Mrs and yours truly who later became honorary members. Why Palaka? Because the honorary President just so happens to sport palaka shirts most of the time. We started the evening with a bottle of 2006 Drappier Grand Sendree Rose Champagne then the amuse bouche of Vichyssoise.

Because the Palaka group enjoy their hearty red wines from the Napa Valley, several bottles were uncorked fast and furious including...

Because I knew I wanted to sample one of Cafe Miro's house specialties, the Foie Gras Don...

I uncorked a 1989 Chateau Suduiraut which complemented not just the Foie Gras...

But also the Proscuitto and Mozzarella Salad...

And since most of our courses were seafood, I also uncorked a 2007 Aubert Reuling Vineyard Chardonnay...

For the Mrs' Appetizer Tasting Platter...

And my Pan Fried Seafood Seafood Medley with Yuzu Vinaigrette...

And my Fried Oysters (a special)...

While the Mrs sampled the Pan Fried Hokkaido Scallop with Honey Curry Vin Blanc Sauce...

The Mrs selected the 4oz Beef Tenderloin Steak with the red wine and wasabi cream sauce...

And since our "rule" is not to order the same thing, I had the 4oz Beef Tenderloin Steak with the Daikon Fusion Sauce...

Tablemates also sampled the Mahimahi with Almond Brown Butter...

And the Roasted Chicken with morel cream Sauce...

Along with more vino...

We finally finished with either the Assorted Dessert Plate...

Or the Assorted Cheese Platter with Walnut Bread...

Another superlative meal from Chef Kobayashi and staff and at $46 for the three course or $58 for the four course, quite a bargain for the quality of food that is served. We did leave quite a bit of wine for the staff to enjoy after service and even the corkage fee is reasonable ($20), part of which was comped. Sp once again, a great night of fellowship, great wines and food and though Kaimuki seems like traveling to one of the neighbor islands from K-Town, we'll be back in short order!
