Lunch @ Mariposa

Because my $100 certificate to Mariposa was gettin' close to the expiration date - I purchased it at last year's Hawaii Food and Wine Festival silent auction - we decided to have lunch yesterday especially since the Mrs wanted a last visit to Nordstrom before their annual sale ended. As usual, you're served those humungous popovers with guava butter...

And a demitasse of chicken consomme...

I also selected a Vojito Rose of their take on a classic mojito using vodka (the "vo" part) along with muddled lime and mint (the "jito" part) and finished with sparkling Rose. Very citrusy but also nice with our starters...

While the Mrs chose the North Shore Breeze with Maui vodka, ruby red grapefruit juice, pomegranate and elderflower...

For the Mariposa Poke with ahi, hamachi and salmon with tomatoes, cucumbers and brown rice (I still don't get the brown rice... perhaps poke bowl?...) and topped with bubu arare...

And the Fennel Crusted Seared Ahi... their take on the classic sala Nicoise except the olives were in the aioli...

The Mrs chose a breakfast selection, the Smoked Salmon Omelette...

While I sampled something different, the Seared Scallops and Potato Gnocchi in a grilled corn, leek, pancetta and potato bisque...

With a glass of Au Bon Climat Pinot Noir...

We also ordered a side of mixed fries but there was mixup with the order so they arrived as we were finishing our mains so they didn't charge us for it...

The Mrs finished here meal with a sorbet and infused tea concoction that was their special non-alcoholic beverage...

As we were about to settle the bill, the manager stopped by our table and said the certificate was only for dinner... we told her no problem, we'll just return before Sept 16th (when the certificate expired) but she briefly thought about it then let us use the certificate for lunch... We always receive GREAT service from Neiman Marcus...
