Holiday Picnic on the Lanai @ Kakaako Kitchen

We indulged in Kakaako Kitchen's last Picnic on the Lanai event for the year. KK normally hosts a Picnic on the Lanai on the last Sunday of each month. Because the last Sunday in November is right after Thanksgiving, they usually move the Novermber event up one week. And since the last Sunday in December is right between Christmas and New Year's, they skip the December event all together.

As usual, we started with some bubbly, a Paul Bara Grand Rose...

The starters included the Mini Crab Cakes with Tartar Sauce...

And the Frizzled Shrimp with Chipotle Aioli... almost like Chef Chai's Kataifi prawns...

I also uncorked a bottle of 2006 Rochioli Sweetwater Vineyard Chardonnay... I don't recall my first bottle having this much oak...

We then moved on to the Clam and Corn Chowder...

And also starting uncorking reds for the main course including a 2009 Sang des Cailloux Vacqueyras...

And a 2009 Aubert Reuling Vineyard Pinot Noir...

For the Braised Short Ribs with Truffle Jus...

And the Baked Salmon with Miso Yuzu Glaze... (forgot to photograph)

Served with Roasted Red Potatoes with Bacon and Vegetables...

Ending our meal Strawberry Flambe with Vanilla Bean Gelato...

And some liquid dessert, a 2003 Donnhoff Oberhauser Brucke Riesling Spatlese...

If you haven't tried Kakaako Kitchen's Picnic on the Lanai events, I would highly recommend it. Yes you have to dine with plastic utensils and paper plates (hey, it's a picnic) but $50 including tax and tip, you won't leave hungry, it's BYOB (they also provide one stemware per person though we always travel with our own) and it's like several parties going on at the same time - you see a lot of regulars. But alas, you'll (we also have to wait) have to wait until the last Sunday in January for the next picnic...
