Dinner Amongst Friends @ GALA Honolulu

We were invited to a private dinner at GALA Honolulu on Saturday complete with a private invitation through Facebook. The event was titled "Dinner Amongst Friends" hosted by RV. When we arrived, RV and friends set up the table with three glasses for each diner with one champagne, one red and one white stemware along with a photo of a celebrity accompanied by each diner's name (pre-assigned seating). Female diners had a tiara to wear while male diners had a multi-colored kukui nut lei (in the colors of the rasta flag)...

Since Chef Degala's cuisine is mostly Asian inspired, we brought a magnum of 2009 Domaine Huet Sec Vouvray...

Along with a magnum of 2006 Senorio P. Pecina rioja...

When there's 12 diners, that's the time to break out the magnums...

A fellow diner uncorked a 2015 Raveneau petit Chablis...

We started with two amuse bouche, the first being a Spicy Hamachi Tartare...

And the second being Truffled Trofie Pasta... almost like a truffled alfredo with perfect al dente pasta...

The next course up was the Fried Shishito Peppers with Chicharron with chili water and white soy... I was fortunate that I had two mild shishito... and the chicharone was perfectly crisp...

Next up was the Ahi Tartar Spoons with inamona, green onion, shiso and white soy...

Then the Kona Lobster Bisque served in a cup... very rich lobster stock with a touch of crème fraiche...

Then the Duck Confit with white bean salad, local frisee, pea sprouts and orange oil...

And Beet Salad with "Bermuda Triangle" goat cheese, Spanish sherry vinaigrette and fried shallots...

Moving on to the Lacquered Chicken prepped "Huli Huli" style on Mohala Farms braised kale...

And Adobo Pork Spare Ribs from 2 Lady Farners cooked for 4 hours...

With Garlic Fried Rice...

The meal concluded with assorted La Gelateria gelato or sorbet, I chose the Mango Sorbet...

It was an excellent meal with great wines but most of all, we made some new friends which is what breaking bread and uncorking wine is all about...
