After picking up our wine at R. Fields, Ms S decided to have lunch at Goen - it's one of our go-to eateries on the Windward side. You're always started with their complimentary edamame tossed with chilies and garlic. We then sampled a round of cocktails, the Ci-Gria with Regaleali Bianco, St Germaine and a host of fruit juices topped with POG cider for Ms S...
While I sampled the Eastside Sunrise with Aperol, vodka, Triple Sec, lilikoi, yuzu and egg white...
Both cocktails were very refreshing. We then moved on to the Smoked Salmon Bruschetta with smoked salmon, tomatoes and basil on sourdough toast topped with Fontina cheese - just enough cheese to hold the toppings but not overwhelm the dish...
And the Crispy Brussels and Cauliflower - a nice char on the edges and nice flavor concentration of both veggies...
Ms S then moved on to her Hamburger Steak which was prepared Japanese style as in "Hambagu" steak. Very tender with a demi-sauce and Fontina served with veggies and fingerling potatoes...
While I "had" to sample the Truffled Gnocchi with Garlic Shrimp - fresh local gnocchi from Onda Pasta in an Alfredo sauce scented with truffle and perfectly cooked garlic shrimp...
I also sampled a glass of Chef Roy Yamaguchi's personal label Pinot Noir produced from Costa d'Oro, one of my favorite Central Coast wineries...
This won't be the last time we're enjoying a meal here as Ms S knows that they only serve their Portabello mushrooms fries at dinner...
