Cocktails @ the Nordstrom Bar

Tucked in the middle of Nordstrom lies the Nordstrom Bar. Whenever I'm riding up or down the escalators, I always wondered how their cocktails are since you can't miss the glass wall with all of the liquor bottles facing both the bar and patrons riding the escalator (a great marketing ploy). Well, we decided that since we're on stay-cay, we would visit Vino for their pau hana Vino on the Patio event since it's impossible do it when we're working (it's the last or 2nd to the last Friday each month and only runs from 4:30pm until 6:00pm). So I told the Mrs we could hang at Ala Moana until 4:15pm or so then head to Vino. I initially intended on hanging at the R. Field wine bar but they didn't have a menu posted and the Mrs wanted to try something different so here we were at the Nordstrom Bar. The Mrs opted for the Key Lime Pie Martini ($11) with Absolut Vanilla, fresh lime and pineapple juice, vanilla syrup, egg white and lime zest. WOW! Like a liquid ...

First Look @ Kaneohe Dim Sum Station

Proprietor Terry Cheung opened his first dim sum restaurant - Kapiolani Seafood Restaurant - in the original MW Restaurant space in September 2022. He simply wanted a place to host friends to eat and relax as his primary occupation is in the construction business. Then just before the Lunar New Year, he opened his second restaurant - Honolulu Seafood Restaurant - in the original Yong Sing (if you're aged like me) or the Mandalay Restaurant space on Alakea St. And just 9 days ago, opened the Kaneohe Dim Sum Station at the Windward City Shopping Center just across from McDonalds. So we decided to pay our first visit this morning... The current two page menu lookslike this... For starters, they are experiencing slight "growing pains" as they open at 10:30am but the steamed items may not be ready until 11:00am or so. Threadfin Bistro hosted another special Sunday dinner last night featuring the dishes of France that looked like this... "Soirée à la Brasserie: A Taste of France" Sunday May 5, 2024 5pm Wild Mushroom Vol Au Vent Black Trumpets, Hedgehog, Morels, Herbs Salad Lyonnaise Local Lettuce, Bacon, Egg, Banyuls Truffle Vinaigrette Quenelles de Brochette Fresh Catch, Fish Mousseline, Sauce Nantua Cassoulet de Canard Confit of Duck, Flageolet, Sausage Chefs Choice Dessert $115 Per Person / BYOB We started the evening with a bottle of Billiot Cuvee Laetitia... delicious Pinot Noir from the Grand Cru of Ambonnay... For the starting dish, wild mushrooms in creme sauce in a puff pastry... I brought an aged Burgundy, a Domaine Trapet Chambertin which was a nice pair since it had loads of mushroomy qualities...
