More Vino...

Still samplin' wine with several recent uncorkings... We did a "brother-from-another-mother" sampling first uncorking a 2016 Les Pallieres Racines produced from the Brunier family of Vieux Telegraphe La Crau fame though this Gigondas came in at ~80% Grenache whereas La Crau is about 65% Grenache. Lots of licorice, grilled meat and subtle fruit though approachable at just over 6 years old...
Then the next day we uncorked a 2014 Keplinger Basilisk which was 100% Grenache... Though some of Keplinger's wine are meant to be consumed younger, this almost decade old Grenache was very tasty with semi-dried red fruit and a touch of stone and gravel and the palate flow was seamless...
Then during the NFL draft, I had to sample a little more (in case the Raiders had their usual grabage drafts...) vino starting with a 2014 Clos Ste Magdeleine Cassis Bel Arme which is primarily Marsanne with some Clairette, Ugni Blanc (the grape that makes Cognac) and Bourboulenc... again, seamless palate flow with stone fruit and mineral...
We also sampled a 1997 Manzone Barolo Le Gramolere which had the usual cigar box, old leather, stone then a touch of dried cherry...
We ended the three day NFL draft with a 2005 Chateau Haut Bergey with gravel, a touch of green pepper and a medium finish... I think I have one bottle left... oh well, wine is meant to drink...
We'll be samplin' a lot more wine as my June Nichi Bei column focuses of wineries owned by Nikkei...
