A Coupla' Napa Cabs

Hestan Vineyards Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2002

Owned by the Cheng’s (of Circulon, Farberware and Kitchen Aid fame) from Napa Valley and made by Mark Herold (of Merus fame), this is an unfiltered, unfined 280 case production which Robert Parker gave 95 points.

Ripe dark cherry and plums on the nose with a hint of vanilla and oak. Rich, sweet ripe red fruit on the palate with balancing tannins and a long finish.

Bressler Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2003

The Bressler’s spared no expense in hiring viticulturalist David Abreu and winemaker Mia Klein (in my view, one of the top three women winemakers in California). The 2003 vintage is their first blended Cab (6% Cabernet Franc added).

Ripe currant and cherry on the nose with mint, eucalyptus and dried orange peel. The palate was a little tight 1 hour after decanting but it had loads of ripe dark fruit and nicely integrated tannins with a moderately long finish.
