Made from the same grape varietal – Nebbiolo – as Scavino’s best Barolos, this unclassified bottle (at about 1/3 the price) still had dusty red cherry on the nose with hints of leather with juicy red cherry emerging on the back end. With a moderate mouth feel and chewy tannins and good acid and a moderately long finish.
Braised short ribs and long smoked barbecue immediately comes to mind.
Made from the classic grape of Chianti, Brunello di Montalcino and Vin Nobile de Montepulciano, this domestic Sangiovese still had tons of dark fruit with hints of licorice and dusty earth. Very concentrated red cherry on the palate with a moderately long finish.
Bring on the wild mushroom pasta or grilled or roasted pork tenderloin!
Luna Napa Valley Reserve Sangiovese 2002 (4)
Dusty cherry and strawberry on the nose with a nice balance of fruit, earth and acid on the palate with a moderately long finish.
Can you say Parmigiano Gelato, aged honey and red wine poached pears with toasted walnuts on grilled baguette slices?
