Lunch at the Ferry Building Marketplace

We paid another visit to the Ferry Building Marketplace on Thursday since our first day there was primarily for "grocery" shopping. This day it was for eating (and drinking). There's also an abbreviated Farmer's Market on Thursdays and the Porchetta "wagon" was parked front and center (just in case the Mrs wanted to indulge). We first stopped at the Ferry Plaza Wine Merchant as soon as they opened at 10am and took a seat in the wine bar. The Mrs felt a little self concious since she was facing shoppers and my back was facing them "They're gonna look at me drinking at 10 in the morning". My response, "We're on vacation, it's 10am and I'm drinking wine. What's the problem"? Of course, the Mrs was appeased when we ordered Burrata from the wine bar's limited menu. Burrata is basically fresh buffalo mozzarella mixed with cream and wrapped in the leaves of the asphodel - the burrata is good to eat as long as the leaves remain green, roughly 48 to 72 hours after it's produced. We were told that the Cow Girl Creamery next door produced it but mainly sold it to restaurants (they did have for sale to the public that day). Served with new harvest olive oil and coursely cracked black pepper, it's like a spreadable mozzarella cheese with that fresh milk taste. The wine bar serves it with a whole Fougasse from the Acme Bread Co (also next door).

At 11am, we moseyed over to the Hog Island Oyster Co for "MY" lunch... only problem was that they open at 11:30am on Thursday (I could have had at least another glass of wine at the wine bar). At 11:31am we were seated and at 11:33am I gave our server our order - 2 dozen assorted oysters on the half shell and a glass of Canard Duchene bubbly. Ok, I'm now a happy man! The Mrs decided to try their Scallop, Bacon and Mushroom soup and boy, it was a great dippin' vessel for Fougasse (must have been karma that we were served the same bread at both eateries).

I did restrain after lunch and didn't indulge in a cup of Triple Espresso or Hazelnut Chocolate Gelato from Ciao Bella... ok, maybe it wasn't restraint. It was simply because they didn't have either flavor.
