Date Night Friday at Vino

We did a Date Night Friday last night at Vino. Vino again ?! Well I did give the Mrs the option to choose wherever she wanted to try, I even suggested Sapori Enoteca but she chose Vino. Maybe it had to do with the fact that I attended Vino's Mediterranean Red tasting on Wednesday (and it was a great tasting) that she couldn't attend. Anyway we started with the Foie Gras Sushi from Hiroshi along with Hiroshi's King Crab special - the Lobster Tomalley Tempura King Crab on cioppino sauce. It was a little messy to eat though it paired nicely with Chuck's selection of a Huet Vouvray. I also sampled the 2008 Hybrid Chardonnay, Albino Armani Vigneto Corvara Pinot Grigio and 2006 Palazzone Campo del Guardino Orvieto with our starters with the Pinot Grigio the star of the trio.

We also indulged in the Margherita Pizza and the special Duck Ravioli from the Vino side of the menu.

Surprisingly, we never sampled the Mini Osso Buco from the regular menu so the Mrs selected it on this visit. We asked Chuck to select a wine for the "Bone with a hole" and he brought out a bottle of 2004 Donna Fugata Tancredi which is basically Nero d'Avola with a touch of Cabernet Sauvignon. Delish! Both the Osso Buco and the wine. I gave the Mrs first dibs on the marrow from the bone which she promptly shared (since it was Date Night).

The Tancredi had an incredible nose of stone, leather and tar with underlying dark red fruit and the palate evolved to include tobacco and a touch of cedar with a seamless flow and medium long finish.

For dessert, the Mrs opted for the Molten Chocolate Cake and a glass of Marsala - drinkin' Marsala, not cookin' Marsala - while I had a Negroni on the rocks.

We plan on returning for Hiroshi's Local Grown Menu selections...
