Prima Bistro Encore

Well, Saturday was our last full day on Whidbey Island, at least until our next full vacation so we had to choose our dining options wisely. It wasn't a difficult choice though, since our initial visit we still thought of menu options untried... so we headed back to Prima Bistro. This visit we managed to keep our menu selections reasonable, the Mrs started with a cup of the special soup - Sugar Pumpkin - which wasn't sweet as the name might indicate but rich and savory.

She then proceeded to the Veal Ragout with Wild Mushrooms on Fettuccine. She initially wanted to try either the Bistro Burger or Lamb Burger but our server stated that it was a full meal - roughly a 1/2 pound patty that potentially could fill you up the rest of the day and we knew we had venison waiting for us at the evening meal. The veal ragout had a rich flavor complemented by the mushrooms (lobster mushrooms)? and the pasta was perfectly cooked.

We shared the Roasted Beet Salad with candied walnuts and Fourme d'Ambert bleu cheese.

And the Salmon Rillette with Crackers - rillettes are like confit, cooked in their own fat then usually shredded, in this case the salmon was flaked. This rillette was full of fatty salmon goodness.

I then dug in to my Confit of Duck Leg over lentils and frisee with a bacon vinaigrette... again cholesterol & calories to die for... Luscious tender duck that could be flaked off of the bone with a crisp skin and earthy lentils balanced by the slightly bitter frisee. Enjoyed with a side of french fries with garlic aioli...

The next time we're back on Whidbey, we'll definitely be back... au revoir Prima Bistro...
