2004 Movia Pinot Nero

Produced in Slovenia (on the Italian border) by Ales Kristancic, this Old World Pinot Noir had the perfume like a German Pinot Noir with sour red cherry and subtle spice with the earthy minerality of a Burgundy but with a pronounced acid backbone. Would probably pair nicely with smoked chicken or pork though I sampled it with a mish mash of edamame hummus, salmon poke and spicy tuna.

Procured at Tamura's Fine Wines, I would purchase this again (if they still have it) as it bridges the gap between feminine German Pinot Noir and bold, earthy Burgundy.
