We stopped by Formaggio Grill in Kailua this past weekend for lunch (brunch) since the Mrs had the ono's for good french fries. Doesn't get much better than Formaggio's Truffled French Fries...
We also sampled the Trio of Bruschetta with the basic tomato and basil, portabella mushrooms and the roasted pepper with garlic and goat cheese.
The Mrs intended on sampling the Ahi Tartine but we were informed that since Formaggio would be eliminating their weekday lunch hours, some of the lunch items weren't available. Bummers because my 2nd choice was the sage chicken meatballs in Marsala sauce with pasta (which also wasn't available). I guess it's a sign of the times with this slow economy... Brasserie du Vin stopped Sunday service a couple of years ago and though Formaggio will still be open on Sundays, their menu probably won't be the same. Anyway, I selected the Sicilian Prime Rib Panini with a green salad side. Thinly sliced rib eye with onions, mushrooms and cheese... It paired nicely with the Justin Cab.
The Mrs settled for the Pastrami Panini - served with slaw and a Russian dressing with a side of Italian style mac salad with cubes of salami and mozzarella.
Now that former GM Patrick Okubo has joined the ranks of Master Sommeliers, I wonder if he'll continue with Formaggio... and if not, hopefully our next visit won't be faced with "For Lease" in the window... For those on the East-Side, help Formaggio out by drinking your wine (at Formaggio of course)...
