Lunch at the Heeia Kea Pier General Store & Deli

After almost 1 year, we finally made a trek to the Heeia Kea Pier General Store & Deli for lunch. I say "finally" because it opened almost 1 year ago and since it's located in my neck of the woods, there was no reason NOT to pay homage to Chef Mark Noguch and crew. We started with a bottle of 2010 D'esclans Whispering Angel (disclaimer: I'm not sure if you're even allowed to BYOB but we did. There are SEVERAL posted signs stating "No intoxicating beverages" allowed. We brought our beverages to enjoy with the food, not to get intoxicated).

The Mrs selected the Guava Chicken with white rice and macaroni/taro salad. It had a nice char on the outside and I could detect a hint of five spice and/or star anise. Fortunately it's usually on the menu so we can always order it (and it paied nicely with the D'esclans Rose).

I chose the Kuahiwi Beef Hamburger Steak also with mac/kalo salad. One of the better hamburger steaks with good outer char and nice crumbly texture (not overly packed like a hockey puck) with good beef flavor.

And what's better with hamburger than Bordeaux? So I uncorked a 1996 Chateau Smith Haut Lafitte with green tobacco, dried herb and earth on the nose and subtle dried red fruit on the palate and a medium long finish (remember that Miles polished off his fast food burger with a 1961 Cheval Blanc in Sideways).

We also sampled a variation of the Hamburger Steak with a fried egg

And a green salad instead of the mac-kalo salad

And Misoyaki Beef

We also "HAD" to sample the fries with brown gravy

And Teri Sauce

And for dessert, Framboise Lambic

Since it's so close to home, we'll be back... to try the fried rice... and moi with shiso vinaigrette... and loco moco variations... and more fries...
