Wine Dinner @ Vino

It's funny how life always completes the full circle. A year or so ago, I met a fellow wine enthusiast when she started working at one of the local wine purveyors that I frequent. Since my UPS box is right across the street, after picking up my latest acquisitions I would stop by for Delizia balsamic vinegar ot San Danielle proscuitto or Boschetto truffle cheese... or even more beverages of the fermented grape. As I got to know her, I realized SP would organize wine dinners with a multitude of fellow winos on an almost monthly basis. She invited us on multiple ocasions but for one reason or another, we never could attend any of these dinners. Until last night. When we first commited, the Mrs was a little excited since SP arranged dinners at Eat Cafe, Sam Choy's BLC, Cafe Otto Mezza or any restaurant that allowed BYOB. Someplace different than the usual. Of course, as fate would have it the wine dinner was planned for Vino. Not that I was disppointed. We frequent Vino for a good reason. An now life has completed the full circle.

The group started with a bottle of Deutz champagne

And a 2008 Clos du Bois Sonoma Coast Reserve Chardonnay

For $45 inclusive of tax, tip and an additional $5 for allowing us to BYOB, we started with the Caeser Salad:

Kabocha and Molokai Sweet Potato Ravioli with Pesto Shrimp in Sage Brown Butter

Truffled Mac and Cheese with Proscuitto

Pizza Margherita

Vintage New York Steak with Broccolini and Tuscan Mashed Potatoes

Finishing with the Caramel Apple Tarte with Vanilla Ice Cream

Of course it was a wine dinner so the Pinots were represented by a 2007 Kosta Browne Kanzler Vineyard and a 2007 Fiddlehead Cellars Seven Twenty Eight

The Zins were represented by a 2003 Pipestone Vineyards Zinfandel from Paso Robles and a 2006 Turley Hayne Vineyard

A lone 2008 Salanques Mas Doix Priorat

This group loves their Cabs so about half of the wines were Cabernet based including a 1993 Clos du Val Reserve, a 2000 Pride Mountain Reserve, a 2004 & 2006 Beaulieu Georges de LaTour, a 2005 Lancaster Estate Nicole's and a 2007 Sterling.

So mahalo SP for organizing the wine dinner and inviting us! A new group with tastes that lean more to New World wines but I'm not complaining. I mean, I continue to purchase my Kosta Browne allocation for a reason (and it's not to resell). And enjoying good company, good food and good wines is what life is all about...
