With Italy down, we sampled the monthly brunch at Michel's. Since it is a Champagne brunch, we had to start with the bubbly. A little bit of Godme Rose NV - love this stuff with fresh red berry on the nose with hints of spice and citrus peel and a seamless palate flow. C'mon you local wine distributors, this NEEDS to be available at retail.
We then moved on to the big boy (or girl), a 1985 Cristal with candied orange peel, subtle baking spices and a touch of brioche on the nose with a rich mouthfeel and smooth flow on the palate and long finish, I can't wait to uncork the rest of the case we have in storage. Who am I kidding? This was the lone bottle. Well, wine IS meant for drinking, not just for storing.
We then moved on to our appetizers starting with the Island Papaya
And Acai Yogurt
Tomato Soup
And Lobster and Shrimp Waldorf Salad
Then moving on to the entrees with the Roasted Halibut
Housemade Brats
And Salmon Saint Jacques
We then ended with the Poached Pears... okay the menu said pears and a servers insisted they were pears but this looks like peaches... like canned peaches.
And the Chocolate Decadence Cake
I laso uncorked an unusual wine to end, a Scholium Riquewihr or late harvest Gewurztraminer which packed a punch - 15.8% abv. Like mixing Gewurz and Sherry!
And though there was that pear/peach hiccup, we'll be back for more. Guaranteed!
