Dinner @ Le Guignol



Since I didn't hit a milestone year this year, I simply had a small gathering of friends to celebrate(?) getting even older... It was just 10 of us at Le Guignol to (more likely) mourn the passing of youth. Who am I kidding? Youth and I haven't been uttered in the same sentence for years! Anyway, whenever you're celebrating with a gaggle of friends, a magnum of Champagne is in order so we uncorked a magnum of 1990 Dampierre Grand Cru. It was just at the edge of losing its youthful exuberance but definitely before nutty, baked fruit overwhelmed the palate.



Since we did have a couple of lighter appetizers, we also uncorked a Cherisey Mersault-Blagny La Genelotte 1er Cru along with a 2010 Regis Minet Pouilly Fume



For the Escargot roti cuit au four avec du beurre d’ail et persil (snails broiled in butter)


The Asperges et crabbe au beurre (crab and aspargus)


The Salad Lyonnaise (no julienne pig ears this round)


The Salade de tomate, noix et fromage bleu (tomato and bleu cheese salad)


The Salade Verte (mesclun green salad)


And my Sausage with Apples


We also uncorked my last 2002 Sine Qua Non Hollerin' M Pinot Noir from Shea Vineyards


Along with a 2010 Alpha Omega Rose


And a 2007  Poggio Antico Altero Brunello di Montalcino


Some of the entrees sampled that evening were the Carre d’agneau roties au sauce poivre vert (rack of lamb with sherry green peppercorn sauce)


The Boeuf du jour (filet mignon with bleu cheese butter or red wine sauce)



The Cote de porc avec sauce au fique et romarin (pork tenderloin with fig and rosemary)


And my special Sausage en Croute (yes, I was Mr Porky sausage that night)


We also uncorked a 1996 Verset Cornas (one of my deathbed wines)


A 2004 Merus Cabernet Sauvignon


A 2008 Regusci Zinfandel


And a 2008 Chateau Boutisse St Emilion


I personally was stuffed for the evening but others sampled the Croissant au lait a la glace caramel et pacanes (cinnamon bread pudding)


The Francais gateau au chocolat avec crème glacee aux vanille (chocolate espresso cake)


The L’huile d’olive et des poivre gateau et la crème glacee aux fromage bleu (olive oil and black pepper cake with bleu cheese ice cream)


And the Crème Brulee


I also uncorked a demi of 2004 Linne Calodo Sweet Leona or late harvested Zinfandel


And we ended the evening at Le Guignol with a 2004 J. Lassalle Blanc de Blanc 1er Cru. I say at Le Guignol because we did adjourn to the L's for a round of single malt scotches and...


Some 2000 Jobard Puligny-Montrachet "Le Trezin"...


Gettin' old is a _itch but if you can do it with good food and wines and great friends, it's a lot easier to swallow... Hauoli la hanau to me!
