We had dinner the day after discovering that Le Guignol would be shutting its doors permanently at the end of April. Sad day but another great meal. V started the evening with a bottle of Philipponnat Reserve Rose.
I then uncorked a 1993 Morey Chassagne Montrachet Les Caillerets 1er Cru for the appetizers. It had some initial funk that eventually blew off revealing stone fruit tart and citrus.
The appetizers included the Tomato and Bleu Cheese Salad
The Crispy Pork Terrine with Raspberry Mostarda
And the Scallops in Puff Pastry and Curry Cream
V then uncorked a 1997 Jobard Mersault-Genevrieres 1er Cru which had more citrus than stone fruit and a very long finish.
For my Sauteed Sweetbreads with Mushroom Cream Sauce
While I uncorked a 1986 Chateau Gruaud Larose which was drinking in its sweet spot with tobacco and a touch of mocha and a perfect palate flow.
For the Seared Duck Breast and the Filet Mignon
K then uncorked a 2009 Fleur Cardinale which was almost New World in nature with loads of red fruit and just hints of earth on the back end.
We also sampled the Olive Oil Cake
And the Cinnamon Croissant Bread Pudding
Along with assorted chocolates
It was a shock learning that Le Guignol won't be around from next month especially since I've had countless meals here going back when Auntie Leilani ran the front of the house but as Chef Ala explained, he rarely sees his two little girls with the restaurant hours he keeps. Oh well, we have one more reservation already booked right before Le Guignol closes for good.
