Meet & Greet Dinner @ Ryan's Grill

Since both the Sis-n-law and Bro both just got back from the Bay Area on Sunday, we did a meet-n-greet dinner with my sister's new significant other known as Maui Boy on FB. He just so happened to be in town over the long weekend and since the rest of the family was here, we did a dinner at Ryan's Grill. Mom insisted on picking up the tab so I debated whether to eat "cheap" or just order what I wanted. Curiosity won so I ordered where the stomach took me. I started with a Hapa Nui Hapa Brown Ale. I wondered if it was still on tap since the parent company filed for Chapter 11 last month. It was, with a nice creamy head and palate.

We then sampled several starters including the Sweet Potato Fries with Volcano Aioli. Pretty much as good as sweet potato fries gets in the 50th (other than Mariposa).

Along with the Jamaican Jerk Fries with Thai-chili coconut aioli (like Golden Arches fries with a slightly sweet mayonnaise).

And the Margherita Pizza - the marinara was a wee bit spicy on this version!

Along with the house baked Focaccia

I then sampled a Deschuttes Black Butte Porter which was creamier almost like a Guinness.

The Mrs started with the Mango Stack Salad

Then moved onto the Cajun Chicken Fettuccine (as well as Maui Boy) - she's had this dish before but said she didn't have to previously "hunt" for the pieces of chicken.

While Sis-n-Law had the Blackened Ahi Salad (she's on this low carb thingy again).

Bro had the Island Style Kobe Loco Moco.

While Mom had the special Cajun Meatloaf with Mamou sauce (it was supposed to be a spicy tomato based sauce but Mom once again said "meh".

And I had the Combo Kobe Hamburger Steak and Kalbi Chicken Katsu. It was a high end combo plate lunch and while the Katsu did have that Korean spice goin' on, the hamburger was less than ideal - a little tough with a white cream gravy instead the usual local hearty brown gravy (actually Bro said the same thing about his hamburger patty though his fave is Alan Wong's Pineapple Room).

The Mrs ended her meal with Ryan's Grill classic Key Lime Pie while Sis opted for the Coconut Cream Brulee with left her wanting (she said it didn't have a pronounced coconut flavor).

It has been a while since I last dined here (when the Kaeru Kid was in town) but they are celebrating their 30th Anniversary so they must be doin' something right. And though the kitchen was runnin' a little behind, our server was spot-on with his service so we'll probably be back for Happy Hour...
