It was a little delayed but we finally celebrated the Mrs' special day at HASR Bistro. She originally was lookin' foward to hosting a dinner celebration at Merriman's Kapalua as part of the Kapalua Food and Wine Festival comin' up this weekend but family obligations and work somehow worked its way into the schedule so we settled for a small dinner here at home. The evening started with Jazz and Cocktails in the HASR courtyard with the Pat Koh Jazz Ensemble... sans Pat Koh with a bottle of 2001 Kistler Sonoma Coast Les Noisetiers Chardonnay which was big, bold and oaky but smooth on the palate with a very long finish.
With Spiced Ahi Nachos
French Fries
And a Lychee Martini
We then migrated inside for more pupus including the Tequila Cured Salmon Tartare
The Mongolian Style Baby Back Ribs
And the Seared Foie Gras
And more vino starting with a bottle of 2011 Eric Chevalier Val de Loire Chardonnay which was flinty and very Chablisesque (if that's a word) with a clean finish.
A 1983 Breton Chinon Beaumont which was peppery with dried red fruit and seamless palate flow and perfect with the Riedel Malbec glasses (inside joke).
We also sampled a Jacque Selosse Initiale (thanks K!) but I forgot to get a photo of the bottle!
And since Foie Gras was on the table, we NEEDED a Sauternes... a 1989 Suduiraut Creme de Tete which had loads of apricot and candied citrus peel and a touch of candied ginger with a very long finish.
We finally moved on to the main courses which included the Roasted Stuffed Organic Chicken
The Seafood Pan Roast
The Braised Short Rib
The Grilled Australian Lamb Rack
The Harris Farm New York Strip
And the last Roasted Venison
Of course we also had more vino including a 1982 Chateau Gruaud with wet stone, tobacco and dried red fruit with a smooth palate flow and medium long finish.
A 2004 Chappellet Pritchard Hill Vineyard Bordeaux Blend which was big and rich in contrast to the Gruaud.
A Saxum James Berry Vineyard
And a 2008 Autard Chateauneuf du Pape
I chose a simple dessert - Kona Coffee Gelato - since I was waitin' for the main dessert...
A 1995 Henriot Cuvee des Enchanteleurs
And a 2000 Dom Perignon
Another great meal with friends! Almost makes gettin' another year older worth it!
