The Ultimate BYOB @ Vino

Okay, who are kidding? These "Ultimate BYOB" are a monthly occurrence at Vino but they still are fun to attend none the less. The January table was arranged by M and C and since the "Familia" all decided to attend, we decided to follow suit. For this round, the menu looked like this:

Amuse
Kona Cold Lobster Arancini
with pea shoots, Kahuku corn & a tarragon butter

First Course
Pan Seared Scallops
with truffled polenta & lemon-olive vinaigrette
WINE:  limestone grown or light, crisp Mediterranean white wines or Chardnnay

Second Course
Home-made Spaghetti
with guenchiale, roasted Roma tomatoes & porcini mushrooms
WINE:  lighter, rustic red wines

Entrée
Horseradish Crusted Braised Short Rib
with root vegetables, farrow & black pepper demi
WINE:  bigger, rustic red wines

Dessert
Strawberry Semi Freddo
with vanilla crème anglaise & strawberry gelato

We carted several bottles with us since you never know what to uncork. Since E and V uncorked Champagne right off the bat, I decided to open a 1995 Verget Montee de Tonnerre 1er Cru Chablis.

We also had a boatload of other Chards including a 2011 Broken Dreams, a 2009 Paul Lato Sierra Madre Vineyard, a 2006 Paul Hobbs, a 2008 Leflaive Mersault 1er Cru Sous le Dos Dane's, a 2007 Whitcraft Bien Nacido Vineyard and a 2001 Walter Hansel Russian River Valley all for the first 2 courses.

We then proceeded to move into the reds including my 1997 Breton Las Perrierres Bourgueil for my two older Cab Franc drinking brothers.

Along with a 2001 Chateau Quinault L'Enclos St Emilion, a 2010 Regusci Zinfandel, a 1998 Domaine du Pegau Chateauneuf du Pape, a 2004 Pahlmeyer, a 2002 Cornerstone Cellars Howell Mountain Cab, a 1946 Chateau Latour, a 2004 Monsanto Chianti Classico, a 1983 Chateau Haut-Marbuzet St Estephe, a 2007 Silver Oak Cab and a 2008 Eneo (a Tuscan IGT with about 5 different red grapes).

Of course, from start to finish another bottle of bubbly was uncorked including our Benoit Lahaye Rose

Along with a Paul Bara Grand Cru Brut, a Chartogne-Taillet Rose and a Pierre Peters Blanc de Blanc Grand Cru.

And for the girls, two bottles of dessert wines were uncorked with the dessert course, a Malvira Birbet and a 2005 La Spinetta Moscato d"Asti.

The damage...

Of course we didn't finish every bottle which ended up at almost 2 bottles per person and we shared leftover wines with the Vino staff and surrounding tables who simply went to Vino for dinner. But that's what wine and food is all about, sharing and making new friends...
