Mother's Day Brunch @ The Pig and the Lady

Since The Pig and the Lady offered a Mother's Day Brunch Buffet today (they are usually closed on Sundays and stated that it was their one and only brunch buffet), I convinced Mom to sample their food instead of her usual choice - Chili's. And I didn't need much convincing to do! I started with The Golden Pig with shampagne (their spelling... my guess is it's sparkling wine, not Champagne), herbs and crushed ice while I ordered the Mystery Machine with white rum, lime and elderflower liqueur for Mom.

The menu read like this and what I didn't realize was you automatically were served the four family style plates. You could make requests for the small plates as part of the meal and they also had several small plates which were an additional $5 charge.

I almost stopped our small plate selections with Mom's choices of the Pho and the Hamhock Croquettes but our server convinced me to get the Shinsato Porchetta. The menu also stated that no take-out boxes would be provided as all menu selections were meant to be consumed on the premises but after seeing all the food for just 2 people (the Mrs worked today), Alex Le snuck us a take-out container so Mom could take home the 3 leftover pieces of Laotian Fried Chicken. And the verdict? EVERYTHING was EXCELLENT! The fried chicken was infused with flavors of lemongrass and herbs and very tender. The Dutch baby combined fresh and roasted veggies with thick cut bacon and my fave - a soft cooked egg! And my new breakfast fave is the Crispy Thai Omelet - so many flavor sensations and texture goin' on with very large crispy fried Kauai shrimp. The Porchetta was luscious as usual (I've sampled it at dinner) and the croquettes had a perfect balance of spice, savory and crispy with the citrus imperials cleansing the palate between bites. And just when was about to throw in the towel, our server once again convinced me to sample at least one dessert so we tried the Carrot Cake Panna Cotta. A very nice balance of several textures of carrot with fresh, gellee, puree and sugar on a rich panna cotta with crumbled walnut cake. And the surprise was the fresh tarragon which gave it a pleasant licorice edge and freshened the palate between bites of panna cotta. However, I can't recommend you sample the meal because it was just for Mother's Day... and supposedly a one-time deal. Hmmm, now to try convincing Alex (or Mama Le) to offer these buffets on other special days...
