Celebratin' Anothah Yee-ah!

The Mrs recently hosted a dinner for close friends to celebrate the passing of another year. And to accompany good friends, there's got to be good food and good wines! Because you never know when your name will be called... So for the Mrs this year, she selected our 2nd home at Hiroshi's private dining room. This is how we planned the menu with the accompanying vino:

2002 Dom Ruinart Blanc de Blanc
2002 Lanson Gold Label Brut
1982 Chateau Suduiraut
1991 Royal Tokaji Betsek 5 Puttonyos

Hiroshi's Rice crackers
Duo of Contemporary Sushi
Pepper Seared Ahi with grilled scallions, yuzu kosho, shiso and yuzu vinaigrette
Miso Glazed Salmon with pickled red ginger
La Belle Farms Foie Gras Sushi with teriyaki glaze and essence of shiso
Fried Brussels Sprouts with konbu aioli, pistacchio and Granny Smith apples

1995 Domaine Raveneau Valmur Grand Cru Chablis
2001 Les Plantiers du Haut-Brion

"Burrata" House Made Mozzarella
Scallop Dore with linguine, Maui onions, roasted tomatoes and basil
Crispy Skin Kampachi with Mrs Chengs tofu, Manila clams, edamame,
Kahuku corn and sinigang sauce

1990 Domaine Monthelie-Douhairet Pommard "Les Chanlins" 1er Cru
1985 Chateau Lynch Bages
2008 Cayuse Bionic Frog

Spaghetti with Guanciale with roasted tomatoes and porcini mushrooms
Rack of Lamb with vegetables and potatoes
Vintage Natural Meats New York Steak with roasted shallot red wine demi-glace,
broccoli and Tuscan mashed potatoes

Taittinger "Nocturne" Sec Champagne

Honey Macadamia Nut Bavarois Chocolate Cake with strawberry anglaise,
mint pesto and vanilla ice cream

2003 Dom Perignon Rose
2000 Pol Roger Cuvee Winston Churchill

Of course, our gracious guests carted their own wines including a 1996 Dom Perignon to start off the festivities

And throughout the meal, other bottles were uncorked including a Il Rose di Casanova from La Spinetta

Along with a 2002 Verget Macon-Vergisson "La Roche"

And a 2011 Saxum Broken Stones

And I apologize to those present that night who read this blog but don't see a photo of vino that you graciously shared with the table because as you know, if I don't fall asleep after 10pm, it's all gravy after that so I inadvertently missed a photo opportunity of your bottle of vino but the Mrs and I gratefully thank you for being present for the passing of another year...

And as an added bonus for the Mrs who requested "lots" of toffee tuiles with her dessert... thank you Chef Pascua (or whomever made it) for the Tupperware container FULL of tuiles as a take home gift! And as a last parting quote from English poet William S. Gilbert:

" It isn't so much what's on the table that matters, as what's on the chairs."
