Dinner @ Morio's Sushi Bistro

The Mrs' work gang wanted to celebrate another year with the Mrs so M selected Morio's Sushi Bistro for the six of us. Yes, it kinda was a girls night out plus yours truly but I had sake so it was ok. Morio's is a quaint little sushi bar that only seats 20 diners and he only has 2 seatings each day, at 6pm and at 8:30pm. When I did a brief web search on Morio's, their Facebook page had a post on 8/26/13 stating that they were fully booked for the rest of 2013! It literally takes 2 to 3 months to get a reservation to dine - forget walking in! I think someone must have cancelled and M was offered a table so she promptly confirmed even while in NYC. It's BYOB (and their website states that Morio simply likes Miller Lite) so I carted several bottles including a Mizbasho Dai Ginjo.

And the Tyku White Dai Ginjo - brewed in Japan but owned by a bunch of US celebrities.

We also sampled a bottle of Kokuryu Black Dragon Ginjo.

They started our omakase (chef's choice) meal with a simple green salad

And soybeans.

Then in rapid succession, we were served Hamachi kama

Mixed sashimi including sake, maguro, snapper, hamachi and mirugai

Along with Baked Oysters

And live lobster sashimi. This dude was actually quite lively raising his claws though I prefer not to have my meal looking at meal while I nosh on his tail...

And Chicken Karaage - one of the highlights with very tender morsels of chicken with crisp, light batter and a sweet chili soy glaze.

Along with Nigiri Sushi including kazunoko (the other highlight) and snapper

More maguro and hamachi

Snow crab and sliced scallops

Ending with uni

Then the remainder of the Maine lobsters were made into miso soup

Quite a deal for about $57 including tip but before we return (or even attempt to return given their difficult reservations), we still need to sample Sushi Sasabune (the sushi Nazi), Izakaya Gaku and maybe Kona Kai Sushi...
