Since the load of batteries I have for my HTC EVO 4G don't retain a charge like they used to and since the Micro SD card seems to also be at capacity, I decided to purchase a new phone. No, not the iPhone 6 since that still has a wait list and I've never really been an Apple fanatic. It came down to the Samsung Galaxy S5 and the LG G3. Both are about the same size (humongous, never mind belt clip, it almost needs a backpack to carry) though the LG has a better display and slightly better battery life... but what sold me was the camera. The S5 was rated as better overall photos but the G3 rated as better for low light pictures. But when one reviewer said "if you compulsively take photos of your food in dimly lighted restaurants, the G3 is for you"... Okay! SOLD!
So instead of lugging my traditional camera with me, I brought only my G3 to Vino for food photos. We had Chuck select a wine for us so he picked out a 2007 Chignard Fleurie "Les Moriers". Beaujolais has got to be one of most food friendly wines (along with Pinot Noir) and this bottle was no exception.
We started with several specials including Kerry Kakazu's hydroponic raised Butter Lettuce "Wedge Salad". Good to see that Kerry is using that doctorate in botany because the salad was very good! it should go on the regular menu!
We also sampled the Fresh Oregon Chanterelles with linguini - it brought back memories of our trip to Washington where every market was selling fresh chanterelles.
Along with the Grilled Tako. Chuck kept making fun of the size of the dish "Is this an amuse bouche?". The tako was very tender though yes, it was about a handfull of food on a very large plate... I told Chuck it was Vintage Cave style...
The Mrs also wanted her usual Duo of Contemporary Sushi
Since the K's showed up, I also uncorked a bottle of 1996 Paolo Scavino Cannubi Barolo. A nice balance of semi-dried cherry, licorice, leather and pebble with a seamless palate flow and long finish.
The K's ordered the Pretzel Coated Calamari... though it appeared to be the regular calamari.
Along with the Roasted Pepper and San Marzano Tomato Pizza.
And uncorked a 2008 Buccella Cabernet Sauvignon - as fleshy as they come...
And a 2007 Pahlmeyer Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir - this bad boy had a little of that Burgundian funk goin' on...
Jason also let us sample one of the Hiroshi specials, the Island Onaga en Papillote - it was a very tasty dish especially since it was steamed with calamansi.
The girls also had room for dessert so they sampled the Chocolate Pistacchio Semi-Freddo
And the Flourless Chocolate Cake (even Doomo is in on the action)...
And as usual, it was another great evening at Vino with great food, friends and wines. Though the Mrs had trouble keepin' her eyes open and the end of the night so I wisely skipped my finishing Negroni to keep her company on the drive home (I'm usually passed out)...
