This recipe has popped in and out of the home page of myrecipes.com over the past 2 weeks (it's actually still on their homepage) so I finally clicked the link to view the actual recipe. Store bought pie crust, apples, brown sugar, spices and bacon. That looks easy enough.
So I purchase a box of pie crust courtesy of that little white naked juvenile giggly guy...
Then peel, core and slice four large apples...
Mix the sliced apples into 3/4 cup light brown sugar, 2 tbsp cornstarch, 1 tsp cinnamon, 1/2 tsp cardamom, 1/2 tsp clove and 1/2 tsp nutmeg...
Layer apple mixture in one pie crust place in a 9 inch pie pan...
Then cover with 8 slices of thick cut bacon "woven" into a basketweave pattern...
Cover with foil and bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour, uncover then bake another 40 minutes to crisp the bacon... and voila!
Because of the cardamom, clove and nutmeg, the flavors were more savory side dish than dessert but I bet it would be terrific with any type of roasted poultry or pork... Happy Thanksgiving all!
