Eating @ the Ferry Building Marketplace

We always make a requisite stop at the Ferry Building Marketplace, especially if it's a Saturday since the Farmer's Market is in full swing. But one vendor I've never sampled is Roli Roti, mainly since the line starts even before they start serving. But on this day, there was no line at all so we purchased a half pound of the porchetta. The skin is all that you'd imagine, crisp and loaded with porky goodness flavor wise. The flesh, while very rich and flavorful with their herbal inner "schmeer", is a little difficult to consume especially with just a plastic knife and fork. While slow roasting does keep the meat succulent, it doesn't totally break down the connective tissue (like in a slowed braised rafute) so you're left trying to slice through with that plastic knife. And it doesn't help that while you're doing this, large gulls are eyeing your porchetta just waiting for a chance to swoop in and grab your meal.

But I can now say I did sample the faire of Roli Roti. And on Saturdays, the Ferry Building Wine Bar is now open at 8am! So that was our next destination starting with a wine sampler flight for me.

Along with the Boccalone Salumi Plate which included lonza, proscuitto cotto, fennel salame and mortadella along with Chef Cosentino's great whole grain mustard.

Including that great Acme Bread fougasse.

Of course, the Mrs wanted her traditional breakfast faire so we attempted to get a table at Bouli Bar right after they opened but it took forever for the group in front of us to get seated so we headed over to Market Bar.

The Mrs had her usual Organic Egg Omelet.

While I opted for the House-Made Pancetta, Egg and Arugula Flatbread.

I was exited to see an egg yolk front and center but I guess the heat of the oven turned it more soft boiled... but it was still a very good flatbread none-the-less with an excellent crispy crust.
