Lunch @ Poggio

Yes, you've seen reviews of Poggio here before but it's one of our "gotta try again" places in Sausalito... and that includes the hotel right above it - Casa Madrona (but on this trip, we stayed at the Kabuki Hotel in J-Town). Since the Giants had their victory parade just before lunch, we wanted to avoid going into The City during that time and since Sausalito sits just north of The City, Poggio it was for lunch.

And as usual, we started with a round of cocktails including the Ciao Bella! ($10) for the Mrs with limoncello, grapefruit juice and Prosecco.

And the Dirty Negroni ($10) with gin, Campari, dry vermouth and bitters for me.

You just gotta love a joint that has 6 variations of my favorite libation, the Negroni!

Then some bread and butter.

And our server notified us that their special for the month - several bottles of wine throughout Italy were just $20. So I found a nice Nebbiolo from Piedmont - a 2013 San Silvestro Nebbiolo Langhe which regularly went for $48 for just $20! SCORE!

We then moved on to our appetizers including the Mela ($12) or arugula salad with apples, pickled onions, walnuts and goat cheese.

The Trippa ($9), slowed cooked with chorizo, chickpeas and oregano. Very tender with that chracteristic earthiness of  tripe...

And the Salumi misti ($15) - four house cured salumi including mortadella and porchetta di testa with grissini. Once again, great house cured salumi! Too bad only a couple of chefs in the 50th cure their own salumi...

We then moved on to the mains including the Rigatoni ($17 full portion) for the Mrs with a bolognese of lamb, pork and chicken liver. It was one of the better bolognese I've sampled!

Along some Cavolini ($6) or a side of fried Brussel Sprouts with pancetta and sage.

And my small portion of Gnudi ($11 small portion) with spinach and ricotta dumplings on a beef ragu - it was the perfect portion after the Trippa and Salumi misti.

The Mrs still had room for dessert so she ordered her usual standby dessert, an Affogato.

I was pretty stuffed so I didn't even order a finishing libation like I usually do. And once again, Poggio didn't disappoint! It will remain on our "gotta try again" list for quite some time...
